Job Summary & Responsibilities

Nevro is seeking an experienced senior transactions attorney. The level of this role will depend on experience. The location of the role is flexible (in Europe) and will work with U.S. Legal Department colleagues to establish a common approach to contracting and general commercial and compliance guidance that supports an efficient, high-quality and client-focused experience for our European internal business clients. The individual will be a key business partner to the executive management and sales teams in Europe, including providing strategic and drafting advice for sales agreements and contract management processes.


This role will manage local counsel and coordinate with the Chief Compliance Officer to ensure all commercial arrangements are consistent with applicable anti-bribery/anti-corruption, privacy and other compliance regulations, including assisting in customer privacy & security assessments, drafting and updating compliance policies and team trainings, promotional materials review, government and internal investigations and periodic corporate risk assessments. The Sr. Commercial Counsel will be required to work cross-functionally among all departments and interact with a wide variety of business stakeholders, including the European Commercial teams, General Manager of International, Country Managers and VPs.


Key responsibilities will include:


  • Providing legal, compliance and contracts support for the European commercial business and operations, including identifying and helping to address compliance (e.g., FCPA, UK Bribery Act, local anti-bribery/anti-corruption and marketing regulations directed toward health care industry) and privacy issues;
  • Providing general legal support as needed to corporate functions including HR, Finance, Corporate Communications, Marketing and Medical Affairs;
  • Developing efficient processes, policies and contract templates for contracting, including agreements with health care professionals and compliance with data protection laws;
  • Supporting Human Resources on various employment matters, including employment agreements; complaints, investigations and litigation; and data privacy matters;
  • Managing outside counsel in the areas of compliance, privacy, commercial and employment matters;
  • Serving as lead counsel and representing the legal function in areas of significant projects or committees with a European focus, including corporate compliance training; and
  • Providing advice and training to company stakeholders.

Role Requirements

  • Advanced law degree(s) (Masters level or above or equivalent)
  • At least 6 years of business counseling and commercial contracts experience

Skills and Knowledge

  • 1-3 years of health care compliance and/or privacy law experience is highly preferred
  • Combination of 6-10 years of experience as associate or counsel at a law firm or in-house (health care/life sciences industry preferred)
  • Familiarity with data protection laws in Europe
  • Privacy or compliance professional certification a plus (e.g., CIPP/E, CIPM, CRCMP)
  • Near-native-level fluency in written and spoken English, including legal drafting
  • Experience navigating commercial law issues
  • Awareness of legal and compliance issues specific to the health care/life sciences industry
  • Experience in product marketing material review
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills (written and oral) and ability to interact credibly with the senior leadership
  • Ability to juggle competing priorities in a reporting matrix and drive to results with high emphasis on quality and creativity
  • Capacity to thrive in a cross-functional, multicultural and collaborative team environment
  • General eagerness to learn and ability to navigate new areas of legal landscape
  • Excellent business acumen in the health care/life sciences industry is desired
  • Employment law proficiency in at least one European jurisdiction is desired
  • Professional-level fluency in German is desired
