    Nevro is seeking a Principal Test engineer to join the Automated Test Equipment engineering team in Redwood City.  This individual will work with cross functional teams in operations, R&D, Quality, Regulatory and Marketing to assure that all of Nevro’s medical devices are thoroughly and appropriately tested during development and production to maximize product quality.  At Nevro, the ATE engineer is a vital and critical role in the product life cycle.  The ATE engineer is involved from the beginning of the product life cycle through the development, launch and ongoing sustaining of testing in a production environment.  ATE engineering is not only a function that is viewed as creating, developing and sustaining the test systems that assure product quality but also a vital function that works with our engineering teams to define, debug and ultimately create the highest quality medical devices for our patients and customers.

    This position is responsible for all software required in the creation, development, manufacturing transfer and maintenance of Nevro’s custom engineered test solutions.  This individual will be the technical expert in test software and leader for software related test engineering for Manufacturing Automated Test Systems. 

    Role Requirements

    The ideal candidate has:


    At a minimum a BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field and 10+ years of relevant experience. Medical device experience is preferred.


    • Responsible for planning, developing, coordinating, and directing test engineering software development of multiple projects with many complex features, utilizing internal and external resources, in a deadline driven environment.
    • Responsible for test systems to support production testing of implantable pulse generators as well as external support devices such as chargers, remotes, etc.
    • Develop software in a regulated environment in accordance with internal operating procedures and external standards and regulations, in a Dynamic environment. Conduct cross-functional reviews of the software development at appropriate times in the development cycle. 
    • Responsible for the creation and maintenance of test system databases.
    • Works in accordance with quality system procedures and actively enforces its objectives.
    • Applies technical principles, theories and concepts, towards the solution of complex technical problems and provides creative solutions which are innovative and ingenious.
    • Self-starting, self-motivated, self-directed, and self-sufficient.
    • Proactively identifies areas of developmental risk and communicates these to management accordingly.
    • Skilled in the documentation of automated test systems including development and execution of verification and validation test plans, test protocols and preparing reports.
    • Experience in test system qualification and validation techniques including IQ, OQ, PQ, DOE, Gage R&R, process capability and TMV.
    • Requires the ability to travel occasionally throughout the United States and internationally.
    • Contributes to the intellectual property base of the Company via active communication of new concepts to management.

    Skills and Knowledge

    • BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field.
    • 10+ years experience in test engineering or related discipline.
    • Expertise in National Instruments LabVIEW and Test Stand is required.
    • Working knowledge of creating, updating and maintaining SQL Server databases.
    • Good analytical and problem solving skills.
    • Excellent communication skills.
    • Design for manufacturing experience.
    • Strong familiarity with "C#" programming or similar programming languages is a plus.
    • Experience in implantable medical device development is a plus.
    • Experience with the FDA Submission process, ISO Requirements and QSR requirements is a plus.
    • Prior experience working with contract manufacturers is a plus.
    • Experience with BlueTooth and/or Med-Radio technologies is a plus.
